Wharekai Bookings
Booking our Marae Complex
WELCOME
The Korongata Marae wharenui Nukanoa is closed, however the wharekai Matariki is available for booking for your wānanga, conference or daily hui. The marae complex is comprised of the wharekai [dining room, inside kitchen, outside kitchen], the wharepaku unit [including coin operated laundry facilities], marae ātea space in front and to the side of the wharenui, and parking spaces to the side of the existing wharenui and the parking pad behind the wharepaku. The Wharenui is out of bounds for all bookings until further notice. If you require a pōhiri or whakatau, please note this in your booking request.
WHAT IS AVAILABLE?
The wharekai 'Matariki' and the ablution block are newly renovated buildings and were reopened on Saturday 4 March 2023.
You can fit up to 150 conference-style or up to 100 seated at tables. We have 16 flip top dining tables, 10 trestle and 3 board room style tables and 150 seats. We have a walk in chiller, two large glass door fridge and freezer, a commercial comvi oven, gas stove top, and chaffing dishes. Our dining room also has a TV Trolley and sound system on request. We can discuss this in detail if interested.
-
Bookings are generally made on a whole or half calendar day basis unless otherwise negotiated.
-
Whole day = up to 8 hours same day;
-
Half day = up to 4 hours same day
-
There is an allowance for 1 hour setup before and 1 hour packdown after the booking period.
-
There is an overnight fee for those wanting to stay in the marae overnight as this adds upon the cost to keep the marae open and usable as power and gas is consumed. This opportunity must be approved by the Korongata Marae Trustees Kaitiaki Committee first. They are informed through the booking officer.
-
Tangihanga takes preference, however due to our wharenui being out of action, the only provision for tangihanga at this stage while we plan to rebuild Nukanoa, is that whānau are welcome to bring in their own marquee and erect it on the marae complex to use for a temporary whare for their whānau to have their loved one lie in state. The wharekai/kitchen and ablution block can be used accordingly. If whānau choose to keep their loved one at home, we do have an opportunity for use of mattresses etc to support the whānau. This arrangement is discussed with the hirer.
-
While the wharenui is out of action, we are not able to house whānau accordingly in the complex, however small groups could sleep in the wharekai and have a separate place for eating. Likewise as noted above, if hirers want to bring in their own marquee or tent city, that is also an option. If whānau do choose this option, they must provide their own proper ground protection. We discourage the use of the marae mattresses being used on the ground unless fully protected by a covering, to protect and prolong the life of our mattresses. This must be discussed during the hire inquiry stage.
-
Marae equipment and AV resources may be available upon request. Hirers must use their own software applications and bring their own technical support to run these resources.
-
General consumables are included in the pricing of the hire including tea, coffee, sugar, milk, dishwashing liquid, toilet paper, handtowels, handwash, and 5 tea towels. General pantry items are available for use in the kitchen. Koha to replace these items is encouraged. Gas is treated as a separate consumable which is charged in the final invoice to the hirer.
-
The Marae Must Be Left Clean and All Rubbish and Pig Scraps Removed From the Marae Complex on a daily basis and when the Marae is vacated.
