Elections 2026

Could You Help Lead the Future of Korongata Marae?

Every three years our marae has the opportunity to elect a new team of Trustees to guide the future of Korongata Marae. This year our Triennial Korongata Marae Trustee Elections will be held during our Annual General Meeting on Saturday 22 August 2026.

Being a Marae Trustee is both an honour and a responsibility. Our Trustees are entrusted with protecting the assets, values, tikanga and long-term aspirations of our marae for future generations. It is a role that requires commitment, integrity, good judgement, and a willingness to work collaboratively with others for the benefit of our whānau.

If you have ever thought about giving back to your marae, now is the time to consider putting your name forward.

Being a Trustee isn't about having all the answers. It is about being prepared to learn, contribute, listen, make informed decisions, and work alongside your fellow Trustees to achieve the goals of Korongata Marae.

Trustees have important legal responsibilities under Te Ture Whenua Māori Act and the Trusts Act. They are expected to act honestly, avoid conflicts of interest, understand the Trust Order, manage the affairs of the marae responsibly, and always make decisions that are in the best interests of the Trust and its beneficiaries.

To help prospective candidates understand what is involved, the current Trustees have prepared a Korongata Marae Trustee Election Pack. This pack provides an overview of the role, responsibilities, expectations and governance requirements of being a Trustee.

We encourage everyone considering standing for election to read the information carefully before submitting a nomination.

Good governance doesn't happen by chance, it happens because committed people step forward to serve their marae.

If you have the time, the commitment, and the desire to help shape the future of Korongata Marae, we encourage you to put your name forward.

Trustee Election Pack includes the following documents to assist you:

  • Korongata Marae Charter – outlining the purpose, objectives and rules governing the Trust and Trustee Elections.

  • Marae Trustee Responsibilities Information – explaining the legal and governance responsibilities of Trustees.

  • Korongata Marae Trustee Kawa – the values and expectations that guide how Trustees work together.

  • Korongata Marae Trustee Nomination Form – to complete if you wish to stand for election. These can be handed in on the day of the election.

We look forward to welcoming those who are ready to serve our marae and our people. Together, we can continue to strengthen Korongata Marae for the generations to come.

The biggest aspiration is to rebuild Nukanoa. We can do this with the right people and the right attitude.
